NFL Week Five Review Stuck
Posted on October 9, 2012 at 06:23 PM.

Not much has changed from week four to five, the undefeated teams stayed that way, while the Browns continued their season of ineptitude. The referees thankfully didn't make any egregious errors that I saw, but feel free to chime in with any you saw.

1. Houston and Atlanta

At this point we should play the who loses first game. With Houston facing Green Bay next week my money is on them. The Texans are the most balanced team offensively and defensively in the league. Unfortunately, they lost a key cog when Brian Cushing went down on Monday night.

For Atlanta, they narrowly escaped DC with a victory, and had to knock Robert Griffin III out of the game to get, but they did. The offense was slowed down by the weather, but the defense made enough stops and forced rookie Kirk Cousins into two late turnovers to seal the win.

2. Drew Brees Breaks Johnny Unitas' Touchdown Streak

I just had to touch on this Drew Brees passing record for a second. The accomplishment seems easy (well, easier) to pull off now, but I'm intrigued how long Brees can go with this. Unitas' record seemed to be one of the untouchables in sports, but Brees and the potent Saints attack broke it. Given the lack of passing during Unitas' day this record seems more like it would be 70 or 80 games in today's NFL.

3. Speaking of Brees and the Saints...

The Saints won their first game of the season, defeating the Chargers on Sunday night. Brees had another monster game and he connected with receiver Marques Colston for three touchdowns on the evening. Is this the start of the turnaround, or is it merely a one week explosion?

4. The Kids Are Alright

This isn't all that surprising given three were taken in the first ten picks, but to see them all doing this well, this early, is impressive.

Andrew Luck led a comeback against the Packers this past weekend, and outplayed Aaron Rodgers in the process. Robert Griffin III saw his first struggles, and his backup Kirk Cousins had his moments, but given how RGIII has started the year in Washington most Skins fans cannot be disappointed (but naturally are).

Ryan Tannehill continues to look like a legit starting Quarterback despite an, at best, weak receiving corps. Russell Wilson has probably held off Matt Flynn for at least another week, and will get a shot at the porous Patriots defense.

5. You Stay Classy, Kansas City!

But seriously, what was that Kansas City fans? I get it. The play-calling was terrible and quarterback Matt Cassel has looked downright terrible this year. However, you don't cheer an injury, and you certainly don't cheer an injury to your own player. That's embarrassing and you all should be ashamed. Also, any sports writer telling Eric Winston to calm down, you should be ashamed as well.

I mean seriously, are you that excited for Brady Quinn?

Good list. As a Seahawk fan I'll also add that the NFC West looks like a powerhouse division with a combined 14-6 record

"The referees thankfully didn't make any egregious errors that I saw, but feel free to chime in with any you saw."

Well the Saints Chargers SNF game was certainly an exception.
If the replacement refs were still reffing, I am sure we would have heard all about Gates's Offensive Pass Interference call that doesn't exist, or the ticky tack holding penalty on Nick Hardwick right thereafter. All on the potential game tying drive to try and "ruin" Drew Brees night.

****off about the chiefs fans. it wasn't nearly as big a deal as winston made it out to be, and really, this is nothing new. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/w...ref_map=%5B%5D

lol dude it was that bad with the chiefs fans, and that article you linked to is absolutely asinine. violence is an issue in our culture, but they did it to their own player, which makes them look like complete idiots. it may have not been everyone, but c'mon man. its just stupid. the point is a lot of ppl like big hits, myself included, and ill only speak for myself here, but i sure as hell dont wanna see someone get injured.
